Reviving Heritage Through Fashion

Avatar: Nelson Woord Nelson Woord

This proposal aims to transform a historic but underused heritage site into a Fashion Footwear Hub, where traditional and modern shoemaking techniques merge. By hosting workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative design labs, the space will celebrate cultural heritage while empowering local artisans and designers—particularly women—with sustainable shoe design and production skills.

Objective:

  • Preserve cultural heritage by reviving traditional shoemaking crafts.

  • Promote sustainable fashion through upcycled and eco-conscious materials.

  • Create economic opportunities for local communities.

  • Offer fashion students and designers a platform to experiment within a heritage setting.

Community Involvement:
Local designers, artisans, universities, and fashion brands (e.g., Stylo(External link)) will collaborate to co-manage the space, conduct training, and host seasonal showcases inspired by regional heritage.

Impact:
The hub will not only give a new life to a heritage space but also make fashion a driver of local identity, creativity, and circular economy.
